Soccer Game Preview: Cumberland County vs. Stone Memorial

The Cumberland County Jets will take on the Stone Memorial Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Cumberland County took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Livingston Academy a 3-0 shutout. Given Cumberland County's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Livingston Academy are ranked 204th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cumberland County hit Livingston Academy with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Nicolo Azzani, Aiden Whitson, and Dylen Navarro.

Meanwhile, Stone Memorial came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.7 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 5-1 win.

Cumberland County pushed their record up to 13-3-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those eight contests. As for Stone Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.

Everything went Cumberland County's way against Stone Memorial in their previous meeting back in April, as Cumberland County made off with a 5-2 win. Will the Jets repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
