Sterling posted their closest win since February 21st on Thursday. They skirted past the Dobie Longhorns 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 back in February.

David Benavides spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sterling's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Montemayor, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Montemayor has hit this season.

Sterling has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Dobie, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Coming up, Sterling will be taking part in a tournament against Clear Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Rangers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Dobie, they will head out to challenge Dawson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
