Baseball Recap: Central Drops Season-High Score on Red Bluff

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central). They were the clear victors by a 21-4 margin over the Red Bluff Spartans on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Grizzlies needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Noah Lujan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Central let Marcus Nolen and Ethan Ortiz run wild. Nolen scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances, while Ortiz went 5-for-6 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five hits gave Ortiz a new career-high. Adam Guerra was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .635. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Central moved to 6-10 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Red Bluff, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-9 record.

Looking ahead, Central will challenge El Camino Real at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royals' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Red Bluff, they will take on Liberty at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
