Softball Game Preview: Riverdale Rams vs. Sherrard Tigers

The Riverdale Rams will square off against the Sherrard Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Riverdale 3.3, Sherrard 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Riverdale gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sherrard 10-8. Riverdale's win was all the more impressive since the Tigers were averaging only 3.09 runs allowed on the season.

Riverdale got a massive performance out of Katie Cox, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Claire Beeler, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Cox wasn't the only one making solid contact: Riverdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Riverdale is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Sherrard, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverdale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Sherrard struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
