Football Game Preview: Salem Wildcats vs. Amite County Trojans

The Salem Wildcats will take on the Amite County Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salem has given up an average of 30 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Salem is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Stringer on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wildcats took a blow against the Red Devils, falling 52-12. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Red Devils: they've now lost seven in a row.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Christopher Riley, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Amite County). They claimed a resounding 56-6 victory over Mount Olive. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-0.

Amite County's win came from a few key players Salem will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kevin Bailey, who rushed for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Those 157 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Marquavius McGhee was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one TD.

Amite County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 344 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 233 rushing yards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Salem fell to 3-1. As for Amite County, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-1.
