Baseball Game Preview: St. Francis Spartans vs. Saint Viator Lions

The St. Francis Spartans will face off against the Saint Viator Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Francis is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

St. Francis came out on top against Bartlett on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Spartans took their game against the Hawks 8-4.

Meanwhile, Saint Viator suffered their biggest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Carmel, falling 13-7.

Jack Corliss was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Jonathan Tschanz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Branden Hynek, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

St. Francis' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Viator, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
