Basketball Recap: Whetstone Takes a Loss

Whetstone played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Hamilton Township Rangers 75-45. The Braves have struggled against the Rangers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Whetstone lost, don't look at Caniya Woods. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 11 en route to 15 points and eight boards. Woods has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Genevieve Golding, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Whetstone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Hamilton Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alexis Wooten led the charge by going 8 for 12 on her way to 19 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Myke-Kila Dean was another key player, going 8 of 15 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Whetstone's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Hamilton Township, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6.

Whetstone didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-48 defeat against Columbus International on the 10th. Hamilton Township has also already played their next match, a 73-23 win against South on the 15th.
