Casey-Westfield took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Newton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Eagles on Monday. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won eight games in a row.

Ava Goble spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tristan Ring, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Truelove, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Casey-Westfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Newton, their loss ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 20-2.

Casey-Westfield and Newton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Warriors will take on Flora at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (33 vs. 246). Meanwhile, Newton (ranked 28th) will meet Shelbyville (ranked 560th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
