Baseball Recap: ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars vs. Monmouth United Red Storm
ROWVA/Williamsfield had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 10-11 to make it six. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monmouth United Red Storm. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 10-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
Connor Buck was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, ROWVA/Williamsfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Sornberger, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Talan Hull was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Monmouth United, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
On Monmouth United's side, Elliott Copeland was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was Copeland's first of the season.
