Preview: Eastern Mennonite Flames vs. Glass Hilltoppers
The Eastern Mennonite Flames will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Glass Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Eastern Mennonite sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-56 victory over St. Michael the Archangel. The victory was just what Eastern Mennonite needed coming off of a 69-49 loss in their prior game.
Eastern Mennonite's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Prodigy L simms, who scored 21 points along with nine assists and five rebounds. Those nine assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Shawn Valentine, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Glass unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak last Saturday. They fell 74-65 to Fleming. While losing is never fun, Glass can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Fleming is ranked 43rd).
Eastern Mennonite now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Glass, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2.
