Softball Recap: Nelson County Governors vs. Appomattox County Raiders
Nelson County had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it five. They came up short against the Appomattox County Raiders, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in April.
As for Appomattox County, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Appomattox County's part, Paisley Mann made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. Mann has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Karly Jenkins was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Bailey Hamilton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Nelson County will challenge rival Dan River at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Appomattox County is set to take on their familiar foe Chatham at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
