AAA District 5 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Kelvin Wells Jr. of McMinn County ran for the longest rushing play in AAA District 5 this season against Walker Valley last week. Wells Jr. scampered for 67 yards on the play and finished with 75 on the day as his team topped the Mustangs.
McMinn County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corbin Powers threw for 94 and one touchdown and Blake Powers had 73 yards receiving. On the ground Dre Sanders chipped in 127 yards. Clay Bennett helped McMinn County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.
Rhea County's Austin Dotson and Demitrius Patterson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Dotson has thrown for 828 yards this season, while Patterson has 20 catches for 272 yards. Bo Cagle's team's Wells Jr. leads the league in rushing yards with 738.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place McMinn County takes on second place Cleveland. The Cherokees defeated Walker Valley last week, while Cleveland.
Ooltewah led AAA District 5 in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Soddy Daisy.
