Baseball Recap: Lawrence Central Takes a Loss

Lawrence Central had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-13 to make it six. They came up short against the Pike Red Devils, falling 11-2. Surprisingly, this marked the Bears' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Paul Carnes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Isaiah Scantlebury made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Pike, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Pike's side, Rory Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chrystan McNeal, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Lincoln Sigmund was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
