Softball Game Preview: Petal Panthers vs. Oak Grove Warriors

The Petal Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Oak Grove Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Petal is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Petal can't be too worried about heading out to take on Oak Grove: they just beat West Lauderdale at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. Petal put the hurt on West Lauderdale with a sharp 7-1 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Petal got a great performance from Mallory Johnson as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gracie Drinkwine was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Richardson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Oak Grove was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell just short of Brandon by a score of 3-1.

Petal's record is now 15-5. As for Oak Grove, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.
