Basketball Recap: Vernon's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Vernon's and Jacksboro's matchup on Tuesday was close at halftime, but Vernon turned on the heat in the second half with 39 points. The Vernon Lions blew past the Jacksboro Tigers 65-44. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Key'Maria Mcbride, who posted 21 points along with six boards and three steals. Mcbride has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mijah Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.

Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Jacksboro's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brailyn Tullous, who went 9 for 18 on her way to 24 points in addition to six boards and five steals, and Hayden Walker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Walker also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024.

Vernon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Jacksboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-10.

Vernon is taking a road trip to square off against City View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. City View will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Vernon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Jacksboro, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Jacksboro Tigers duke it out with the Henrietta Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
