Baseball Recap: DeKalb Barons vs. Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins
DeKalb had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins. That's more bragging rights for the Barons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Bryson Gadson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brady Vince was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Miles Brockhouse was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
DeKalb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Northrop only posted an OBP of .263.
Fort Wayne Northrop's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
DeKalb has already played their next matchup, an 8-0 win against Garrett on the 12th. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-0 defeat against East Noble on the 12th.
