Softball Recap: Ruidoso Takes a Loss

Ruidoso dropped their record down to 19-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-1 to the Dexter Demons. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered since March 29th.

Ruidoso saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexx Chavez, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Dexter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Dexter's side, Kaylonie Nevarez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Nevarez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Sanders, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Melody Duran, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Dexter beat Ruidoso by a score of 16-0 later that day.
