Volleyball Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Aiken Thoroughbreds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thoroughbreds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20.

Gabby Esposito paced Gilbert's offense, picking up 12 kills. Esposito got some help from Kaylie Spires and her 24 assists. Abigail Widmann controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for South Aiken, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-10.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Gilbert will square off against rival Midland Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, South Aiken is set to take on their familiar foe North Augusta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
