Basketball Game Preview: Pearland Oilers vs. Summer Creek Bulldogs

Pearland and Summer Creek are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Pearland Oilers will take on the Summer Creek Bulldogs on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Pearland sitting on four straight victories and Summer Creek on five.

Pearland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They strolled past Ridge Point with points to spare, taking the game 47-32. Given the Oilers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Panthers are ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pearland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eliece Perry led the charge by dropping a double-double with 19 points and 17 boards. Perry is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 11 games she's played. Shiloh Grays was another key player, putting up 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Pearland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Summer Creek was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Deer Park 73-29. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 22 points or more this season.

Pearland's win bumped their record up to 29-7. As for Summer Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 25-11.

Pearland was able to grind out a solid win over Summer Creek when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 47-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pearland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
