Softball Recap: Klamath Union Comes Up Short

Klamath Union extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They came up short against the Phoenix Pirates, falling 15-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Phoenix, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Phoenix's part, Destiny Christlieb and Jersey Stevenson made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Christlieb tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Stevenson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At the plate, Christlieb got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Stevenson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Stevenson has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Phoenix got a massive performance out of Keelie Woodside, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Carsyn Sousa was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Klamath Union had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
