Baseball Game Preview: Mountain View Toros vs. Red Mountain Mountain Lions

The Mountain View Toros will head out to challenge the Red Mountain Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mountain View's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Westwood 10-0.

Mountain View got a great performance from Austin Burr as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Kooper Klein was a standout: he scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Ryan Person was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Red Mountain won against Skyline on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Mountain Lions were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Coyotes. The victory continues a trend for the Mountain Lions in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now won eight in a row.

Dylan Keith looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Kale Thorson was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Derek Wilson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Red Mountain, their record is now 17-4.

Mountain View suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Red Mountain in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Toros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
