Basketball Recap: Sargent Comes Up Short

If Sargent was riding high fresh off their 63-36 takedown of Creede last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sargent Farmers had to suffer through a 68-41 loss at the hands of the Ignacio Bobcats. The Farmers haven't had much luck with the Bobcats recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Sargent's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fernando Venzor, who posted nine points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Venzor has posted since back in January of 2024. Lucas Garcia was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Sargent's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Ignacio, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Sargent will square off against La Veta at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ignacio has already played their next match (against Pagosa Springs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
