Football Recap: Copper Hills Grizzlies vs. Herriman Mustangs
Copper Hills extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 3-6. They were dealt a 42-13 defeat at the hands of the Herriman Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Grizzlies of the 36-25 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.
Skyler Thomas and Logan Batt certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Thomas rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries, while Batt picked up 94 receiving yards and one TD.
As for Herriman, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 20 points or more this season.
Herriman was led to victory by Felisi Felipe and Bryson Sweeney. Felipe rushed for 138 yards and three scores, while Sweeney threw for 286 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave Sweeney a new career-high in passing touchdowns (two). A healthy portion of that aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Gavin Hansen, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Copper Hills will venture away from home to square off against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Herriman, they will head out to take on Cedar Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Aviators will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
