Baseball Recap: Hilliard Comes Up Short

Hilliard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the Baker County Wildcats, falling 11-1. If the Red Flashes were looking for revenge after losing 8-4 to them when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hilliard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Conner Bayless, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Bayless stole this season.

Hilliard's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Baker County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season.

Hilliard and Baker County's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Hilliard and Fernandina Beach (who has only given up 3.4 runs per game) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Baker County will face off against Tift County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, a squad that's only allowed 3.57 runs per game.
