Volleyball Recap: Truckee Wolverines vs. Fernley Vaqueros
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Truckee can now relate to. They fell just short of the Fernley Vaqueros by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August.
Truckee actually scored more points across those five sets (100-96), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-25, 15-12.
Anna Benham paced Truckee's offense, picking up 15 kills. Benham got some help from
Makenna Hogland and her 17 assists. Hogland also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with
Iracel Ponce, racking up three apiece.
With the loss, Truckee broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-9. As for Fernley, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 22-4.
Truckee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Fernley has already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Elko on the 2nd.
