Softball Recap: Lawrence Central Comes Up Short

Lawrence Central extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-20 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Warren Central Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bears have suffered against the Warriors since May 22, 2018.

As for Warren Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-16. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 25th.

For Warren Central's part, Jordyn Dever spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Kira Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Hiliard, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Lawrence Central will square off against Lawrence North at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
