Basketball Recap: Centralia Takes a Loss

After soaring to 62 points the game before, Centralia was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They took a 41-24 bruising from the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces. While losing is never fun, the Orphans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Golden Aces are ranked 48th).

Mt. Carmel's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Hershey, who posted 12 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Stevens, who scored 11 points and seven boards.

Centralia has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

Centralia has already played their next matchup, a 56-38 loss against Mt. Vernon on the 3rd. As for Mt. Carmel, they will face off against Carmi-White County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Carmel will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
