Basketball Recap: Manatee Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Manatee entered their tilt with North Port on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took down the North Port Bobcats 54-36. For the Hurricanes, this counts as revenge for the 43-31 win the Bobcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, North Port saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rhiley Richards posted 15 points along with five boards and three steals. That was a full 41.7% of North Port's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Manatee is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for North Port, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Manatee will challenge Lakewood Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood Ranch is on a five-game streak of home wins, Manatee a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for North Port, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-35 defeat against Port Charlotte on the 13th.
