Basketball Recap: Floydada Takes a Loss

Floydada easily dispatched Post last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Floydada Whirlwinds fell just short of the Texline Tornadoes by a score of 72-70 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Whirlwinds have suffered since January 10th.

Loss or not, Floydada got some senior leadership from Braun Hobbs and Sergio Valadez. Hobbs went 7-for-17 to rack up 23 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds, while Valadez went 8-for-17 en route to 23 points and five boards. Hobbs' afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrean Henderson, who posted 11 points along with six boards and four steals.

Floydada's defeat dropped their record down to 22-11. As for Texline, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 20 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season.

Floydada wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-55 victory against Farwell on the 18th. As for Texline, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 92-44 win against Hart on the 18th.
