Baseball Recap: Independence Blue Devils vs. Kirtland Hornets

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Independence can now relate to. They fell just short of the Kirtland Hornets by a score of 8-6 on Wednesday. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Hornets from their previous meeting back in April of 2019.

Independence got a good showing from Kaden Schuette, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schuette has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam Crooks made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Owen Jenks, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Independence's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-6. As for Kirtland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
