The Emery Spartans will take on the South Summit Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Emery sitting on three straight wins and South Summit on five.
Emery is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Canyon View. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kallee Lake was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Lake was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bailey Luke was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Katelyn Nielson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but South Summit ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Ogden 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 23, 2024.
Like Emery, South Summit also got a great game from a two-way player: Toshlyn Louder. She pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off 13 hits. Louder has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Broadbent and Malia Olson did most of the damage at the plate: Broadbent got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Olson went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Adeline Aste, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Emery's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Summit, their win bumped their record up to 17-11.
Emery's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Summit, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Emery continue to outrun the ball?
Emery came up short against South Summit in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 8-5. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
