Baseball Recap: Thomaston Gets the Win

Thomaston took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Northwestern Regional, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears had just enough and edged out the Highlanders 3-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bears as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Colton Patchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Thomaston is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Taylor Gomes was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Joe Rocco, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Thomaston's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Northwestern Regional, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Thomaston will face off against rival Nonnewaug at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Northwestern Regional is set to square off against their familiar foe Terryville at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
