Baseball Game Preview: Torres Toros vs. Maywood Academy Nighthawks

For the second straight game, Torres will face off against Maywood Academy. The Toros will host the Nighthawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Torres has nine straight victories, Maywood Academy has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Torres made easy work of Maywood Academy and carried off a 15-2 win. Considering the Toros have won seven matches by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Abraham Cardenas made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, Torres got a massive performance out of Jouse Solis Rojas, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Solis Rojas has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. Angel Tostado was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-5.

Torres was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .415. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in nine consecutive contests.

Torres pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Maywood Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
