Softball Recap: Atchison Phoenix vs. Sumner Academy Sabres

Atchison put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Sumner Academy Sabres. Winning may never get old, but Atchison sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Makenzie Weedon-Jacobs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). Weedon-Jacobs was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Presley Simpson was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Andi Estes, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Atchison pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sumner Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1-2.
