Baseball Game Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles

The Laney Buccaneers will venture away from home to take on the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Laney will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

Laney proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Pinecrest, sneaking past 2-0.

Jesse Smith looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Gore, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Holliman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Uwharrie Charter Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Grace Christian on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 6-4. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Laney's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
