Football Recap: Jack Guinipero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pomperaug over Masuk

Pomperaug was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 26-15 hit to the loss column at the hands of Masuk. Pomperaug lost against Masuk in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 56-7 score last time.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jack Guinipero, who rushed for 61 yards and one TD.

Masuk's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jake Viglione led the charge by picking up 137 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Viglione showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 54 yards. Another player making a difference was Michael Charland, who rushed for 78 yards and two scores on only 11 carries.

Pomperaug now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Masuk, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Coming up, Pomperaug will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame Prep at 6:30 p.m. on the 25th. As for Masuk, after both having extra time off, they and Newtown will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:00 p.m. on the 26th. The Nighthawks will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
