Basketball Recap: Lansing Comes Up Short

Lansing came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 78-48 loss at the hands of the Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked eighth).

Jaret Sanchez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shawnee Heights, going 14 for 21 on his way to 36 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The contest was Sanchez's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ontarius Emmot, who went 5 of 7 to rack up 13 points.

Lansing's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-1. As for Shawnee Heights, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.

Coming up, Lansing will be playing in front of their home fans against West on Tuesday. West has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Shawnee Heights, they will venture away from home to face off against Seaman at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Shawnee Heights' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups.
