Softball Game Preview: Valley View Cougars vs. Delaware Valley Warriors

The Valley View Cougars will square off against the Delaware Valley Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It was a proper cat-fight when Valley View duked it out with Thomas Jefferson on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 14-3 win. The victory was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on six straight.

Abbi Call made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Taylor Cawley was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maggie Hallett, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Valley View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in five consecutive games.

While Delaware Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over Port Jervis on Thursday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Valley View pushed their record up to 9-1-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Delaware Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Valley View took their victory against Delaware Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
