Soccer Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma vs. Hunt

Smithfield-Selma hasn't had much luck against Hunt recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will welcome the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Smithfield-Selma has given up an average of 3.6 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smithfield-Selma is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to six goals on Friday, they were much more limited against Fike on Tuesday. They came up short against the Demons, falling 10-1. While losing is never fun, Smithfield-Selma can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 347th, while Fike are ranked 118th).

Meanwhile, Hunt hasn't lost a match since March 7th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Wednesday. Everything went their way against West Johnston as they made off with a 7-2 victory. The result was nothing new for Hunt, who have now won seven games by five goals or more so far this season.

Hunt is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 50 goals over those seven contests. As for Smithfield-Selma, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
