Baseball Recap: Finneytown's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wyoming, Finneytown was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the New Miami Vikings a 10-0 shutout. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Daniel Mefford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Brayden Alcorn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Finneytown: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Kendall Richard was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Finneytown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the win, Finneytown broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for New Miami, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Finneytown will face off against Mt. Healthy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for New Miami, they are taking a road trip to challenge St. Bernard-Elmwood Place at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
