Basketball Recap: Westside Skates Past Wisdom with Ease

Westside won the last time they faced Wisdom and things went their way on Monday too. The Westside Wolves really took it to the Wisdom Generals for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-11 win. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 680th, while the Generals are ranked 1505th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Westside to victory were Garlynn Grant and Jaleyah Reed. Grant went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Reed went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Grant is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last eight games she's played. Jakaila Matlock was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Westside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Westside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Wisdom, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11.

Coincidentally, Westside and Wisdom will both be playing Cesar E. Chavez the next time they take the court. Westside will host Cesar E. Chavez at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, while Wisdom will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on February 3rd.
