Basketball Recap: North Port Comes Up Short

North Port lost against Lakewood Ranch back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The North Port Bobcats took a 31-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs.

Despite the defeat, North Port saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rhiley Richards posted ten points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 37% of North Port's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gisele Novielli, who put up seven points.

North Port's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Lakewood Ranch, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the North Port Bobcats challenge the Barron Collier Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lakewood Ranch, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Braden River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
