Baseball Preview: Sugar-Salem Diggers vs. Weiser Wolverines

Sugar-Salem is a perfect 3-0 against Weiser since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Sugar-Salem Diggers will take on the Weiser Wolverines in a tournament on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sugar-Salem had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against New Plymouth by a score of 8-5. Winning may never get old, but the Diggers sure are getting used to it with their 18th in a row dating back to last season.

Dax Crapo looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Sam Chappell was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Dawson McInelly, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Sugar-Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Plymouth only posted a batting average of .182.

Weiser never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against American Falls on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Beavers.

Weiser got a big performance out of Cole Ingle, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Jace Waggoner was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.

Sugar-Salem was able to grind out a solid win over Weiser in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, winning 10-5. Will Sugar-Salem repeat their success, or does Weiser have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
