Football Recap: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Laguna Acoma Hawks

Newcomb lost against Laguna Acoma back in August of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Newcomb Skyhawks took a 30-14 bruising from the Laguna Acoma Hawks. Despite 110 more yards than the Hawks, the Skyhawks couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Even though they lost, Newcomb was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 314 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laguna Acoma only rushed for 204.

Newcomb wouldn't let Laguna Acoma keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Newcomb can thank Zakkius Negale and Kinjii Natonabah for forcing both of them. Negale is also on a roll when it comes to forced fumbles, as he's now earned at least one in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Derek Victorino Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Laguna Acoma, rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Victorino Jr. got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 56 yards. Ekahi Tiller was in the mix as well, providing Laguna Acoma with a touchdown.

Newcomb's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Laguna Acoma, they moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
