Basketball Recap: Wilson Central Takes a Loss

Wilson Central fought the good fight in their overtime game against Smyrna on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Smyrna Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-60 two weeks ago.

Smyrna's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaden Matthews, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 13 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Elliyon Kinzer, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Wilson Central has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Smyrna, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilson Central will take on LaVergne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. LaVergne will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Wilson Central surely won't give up without a fight. As for Smyrna, they will face off against Cookeville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
