Basketball Recap: Uniontown Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Uniontown had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.4 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They took down the Gateway Gators 75-60. Given the Red Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Gators are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Uniontown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tori Grooms, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 19 points and three steals. Grooms' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Winfrey, who went 8 for 16 en route to 21 points and seven boards.

Uniontown's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.6 points. As for Gateway, they moved to 8-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Uniontown will head out to challenge Laurel Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Uniontown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups. Gateway has already played their next contest (against Penn-Trafford), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
