Morton came tearing into Monday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Metamora Redbirds by a score of 5-1. This was payback for the Potters, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ryan Schaffnit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brandon Sieben, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andy Ballard, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Morton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Metamora, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Coming up, Metamora will take on Mt. Zion at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Morton will be paying especially close attention to the Redbirds' match: after the Redbirds faces off against the Braves, they'll take on Morton again at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
