Softball Game Preview: Matawan Regional Huskies vs. Allentown Redbirds

The Matawan Regional Huskies will head out to challenge the Allentown Redbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Matawan Regional came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-6 to Colts Neck. The Huskies' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Sienna Cali and Maddie DeChristopher stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cali got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while DeChristopher went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Weimer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Allentown). They blew past Nottingham 13-1 on Thursday. The Redbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Allentown's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Matawan Regional, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 8-6.

Matawan Regional couldn't quite get it done against Allentown when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
