Basketball Recap: George West Comes Up Short

George West lost against Aransas Pass back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The George West Longhorns were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to the Aransas Pass Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1179th, while the Panthers are ranked 566th).

Loss or not, George West got some senior leadership from Teagan Collins and Tristen Blevins. Collins posted 11 points and four steals, while Blevins almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Blevins' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, George West was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

George West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season. As for Aransas Pass, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-11.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Taft the next time they take the court. Aransas Pass will host Taft at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, while George West will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd.
