Softball Recap: Richmond Comes Up Short

Richmond extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-7. They lost 30-5 to the East Central Trojans. The Red Devils lost against the Trojans in their previous head to head back in March of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 6-3 score last time.

Kyla Rogan was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for East Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season.

On East Central's side, Rose Yunger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Yunger was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kasey Knapp was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Chloe Feldmann was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richmond will venture away from home to take on Winchester Community at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.38 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Central, they will head out to square off against Connersville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
